President Muhammadu Buhari warmly felicitates the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Muhammad Mamman Nami on his 55th birthday, praising him for making commendable efforts to raise government revenues, especially at this time of great need.

President Buhari notes that the leadership and guidance of Nami have repositioned operations and staff of the agency, using technological tools to institute far more transparency, accountability, and effectiveness, which has, in turn, translated into the increased capacity to deliver on mandate with results manifestly seen.

The President commends the Executive Chairman for bringing many years of experience in financial services to bear on the foremost tax regulator, with a growing impact on the economy, especially as the government expands and prioritizes infrastructure development.

Former UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jelili Omotola (SAN) Immortalized With N5 Million Endowment Law Prizes

In commemoration of 17 years of the passing of the astute Legal practitioner and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Late Professor Jelili Adebisi Omotola (SAN), the family has decided to immortalize him by instituting a 10-year N5 Million endowment in his name with prizes for outstanding students in the Department of Private and Property Law, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, where he taught during his lifetime.

According to the late VC’s family, the endowment which will run for 10 years has prizes which include N150,000.00 cash prize for the Best Student (Year 4) in Land Law, N150,000.00  for the Best Student (Final Year) in Conveyancing Law – N150,000.00 and N200,000.00  for the  Best Student (LLM) in Secured Credit Transaction Law.

The late Professor Omotola was the Vice-Chancellor of the institution from 1995 -2000 and was the first and only lawyer in the University’s 60-year history to become its Vice-Chancellor.  He spent 29 active years teaching Land Law, Conveyancing, and Secured Credit Transactions and was twice Dean of the Faculty of Law.

Speaking on the development, his son based in South Africa, Adetunji Omotola, said, “On this day the 26th of January 2023, I am pleased to announce that my family through the late Estate of my father Professor Jelili Omotola has made a donation of NGN 5 million to the University of Lagos. The donation is for prizes in three Law subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for a period of 10 years”.

The management of UNILAG in an acknowledgment letter dated 25th January 2023, by the Advancement Management Board University of Lagos signed by the Acting Director Seth Adebisi Dare, conveyed the Management’s appreciation of the family’s intent to immortalize the former Vice-Chancellor.

“On behalf of the Governing Council Senate, Staff, and Students of the University, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your decision to donate Five Million Naira (N5,000,000.00) for the prizes for the best students in the Department of Private and Property Law, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.  This gesture will go a long way not only in immortalizing our former Vice-Chancellor but will equally promote healthy academic competition and excellence” Mr. Dare wrote.
