Nigerian Breweries Reaffirms Commitment To Environmental Sustainability Agenda

Nigerian Breweries Plc, the foremost brewing company, has restated its commitment to ensuring a sustainable and environmentally friendly agenda in its business operations across the country.

The reaffirmation was given by the Managing Director, Mr. Hans Essaadi during the company’s 76th Pre-AGM media briefing held in Lagos on Thursday, April 7, 2022.

Essaadi noted that sustainability is a key pillar of the company’s strategy, which explained why it recorded significant progress in this direction in the last few years.

He further stressed that the company made significant investments in the last 12 months to meet this ambitious target by driving operational excellence in its existing assets while also promoting alternative energy solutions in its operations.

According to him, the company achieved a relative reduction in water consumption and carbon emission during its operations in the 2021 financial year.

“Over the last year, we have achieved 11.35% carbon emission in production. We have also reduced our water consumption from 3.80hl/hl in 2020 to 3.70hl/hl in 2021. We have achieved zero waste to landfill at 5 of our production sites and ended 2021 with an overall 95.6% waste diversion from landfills. We launched the sunshine crèche to promote diversity and inclusion”, he said.

He stated that in line with its ‘Brew a Better World’ sustainability agenda, the company has embarked on far-reaching initiatives geared towards improving the planet and making it a better place to live and thrive as a business.

He disclosed that the company was determined to deliver superior and balanced growth for the business through the HEINEKEN EverGreen strategy.

“As a 157-year-old company, we think in generations and deliver long-term, sustainable value creation. Our EverGreen strategy has been built from four foundational areas called the Green Diamond. EverGreen leverages our existing strengths and new opportunities to chart the next chapter of our growth”, he added.

He stressed further that the company would continue to channel investment in alternative energy sources for its production to reduce carbon emissions, which would consequently help in achieving an environmentally sustainable planet.

He assured stakeholders that the company remains committed to not only keeping its balance sheet strong but ensuring that the health, safety, and welfare of its employees, customers, communities, and partners are protected.

The award-winning agency carted 29 laurels in different awards categories, winning 1 Grand Prix, 1 Gold, 9 Silver, and 18 Bronze medals to emerge as the second-best decorated agency in Africa and the agency of the year in Nigeria. The feat also saw the agency adjudged as the Entertainment Agency of the Year.

The World Toilet Day Ad for Hypo won the Grand Prix in the Use of Music category, while Rainmaker Ad won Gold in the entertainment film for Airtel’s Data is Life campaign.

Speaking on the achievements, the Founder/Chief Creative Officer, Noah’s Ark Communications Limited, Mr. Lanre Adisa, attributed the success achieved by the agency to its resilience and unwavering commitment to delivering creative works for its clients, as well as the steadfast support and collaborative disposition of the clients.

Akpur College, Gboko, Benue State, and Government Secondary School, Karu, FCT have emerged champions in the girls and boys categories respectively at the Central Conference of the 22nd Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.

In the girl’s category, Akpur College, Gboko, Benue State defeated their Queen Amina College, Sabon-Tasha, Kaduna State counterparts 35 to 31 to emerge champions while the boys from Government Secondary School, Karu, FCT outclassed their Father O’Conel Science College, Minna, Niger State opponents 34 to 23 in a thrilling encounter.

I participated in the now rested MILO Squash Championship in Lagos many years ago. MILO Secondary Schools Basketball Championship is a very good development for all basketball players. As these students have gathered from different states for a bigger competition, they will be encouraged to take the sport more seriously and enjoy all the benefits of playing and participating. We thank MILO for continuing to be a pillar of sports in Nigeria.”

Milo Basketball Championship Central Conference Ends In Ilorin As Benue, FCT Win

The Central Conference was hosted at the Ilorin Township Stadium in the Kwara State capital from the 14th-20th of May 2022. The States that make up these Conferences are Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, and the host Kwara. Others are Benue, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, and the F.C.T (Abuja). The Champions in both the male and female categories of this Conference will compete with winners from the Savanna Conference held in Kano from the 7th to 13th of May as well as the other two future Conferences – Equatorial Conference, Enugu: 21st – 27th May and Western Conferences, Ibadan: 28th May – 3rd June in the national final at the indoor sports hall of the national stadium in Surulere, Lagos from June 25 to July 01, 2022.

As part of its contribution to driving pop culture in Nigeria, Pepsi Naija in partnership with Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) showcased a Pepsi-inspired collection at the first-ever AMVCA Runway show.

Ten super talented young fashion designers who participated in the show designed a Pepsi-inspired collection. Their designs incorporated the brand colors, logo, and other elements that represent the brand – authenticity, passion, and youth.

The keenly contested show saw Sophie Nwabunike and Obinna Omeruo emerge, as winners, each taking home, a N1 million cash prize to the delight of fashion designers, influencers, content creators in attendance, and Nigeria’s ace designer, Mai Atafo, who was the host of the event.

In addition to the spectacular display of fashion, Pepsi Naija in its usual style brought Confam Gbedu to the event with a thrilling performance by R&B group, Styl Plus. They got the crowd singing along to their classic hits.

Some of the attendees at the event were BBNaija host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu; Nigerian Fashion guru, Denola Grey; popular model and TV presenter, Idia Aisien and on-air personality, Stephanie, Noble Igwe, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Lanre Da-Silva Ajayi, and Adebayo Oke-Lawal.

Pepsi Naija sponsored AMVCA Runway Show to celebrate and promote ingenuity among African fashion creatives. Pepsi Naija is renowned for its age-long affiliation with Nigerian music and growing pop culture. Going by the colorful delivery of the Runway Show, the initiative is undoubtedly one that will further endear the brand to entertain audiences across the country. 

The AMVCA Runway Show is part of activities leading up to the 8th AMVCA Night scheduled for Saturday, May 14. You can tune in live on Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, from 400 pm WAT.
