Leading soft drink brand, Pepsi Nigeria, has announced that legendary Afrobeat artiste, Lagbaja and popular singer and rapper, Rema, will be bringing to Live its Confam Gbedu experience at the 8th Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) for a first of its kind joint performance.

In a statement released in Lagos on Friday, Pepsi announced that the star artists will be live at the awards show which will hold on 14 May 2022.

General Manager, Marketing, Seven-Up Bottling Company, Segun Ogunleye, expressed his delight at Pepsi’s involvement in the AMVCA, which he said is an extension of the brand’s passion point, adding that Pepsi is passionate about the promotion of Nigerian pop culture by creating memorable and unforgettable experiences.

“The AMVCA celebrates outstanding achievements in the continent’s film industry. On our part, we see the partnership with the AMVCA as an opportunity to celebrate our sterling performers in entertainment by providing our consumers and the watching public with an experience they can make a memory of.

“We are excited to announce that Afrobeat icon, Lagbaja, and Pepsi Ambassador, Rema, will headline the maiden edition of the Confam Gbedu musical concert. We believe this performance will further establish Pepsi’s position as the refreshment of choice using music as an avenue to connect with generations from the past, present, and future. The performance will bring a fresh and unique dynamic to the AMVCAs,” Ogunleye said.

Lagbaja, a singer, songwriter, saxophone wizard, and performer are famous for being masked on the stage. He was at the peak of his powers in the 90s through the early 2000s when he sold-out concerts around the country. Even now, he continues to deliver vintage-quality performances across the world.

Rema, unveiled as a Pepsi brand ambassador last September is a singer and rapper who rose to stardom with the release of “Iron Man”, which even appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist. Rema is known for his unique brand of music known as Afrorave, a subgenre of Afrobeat with Arabian and Indian musical influences. He is one of the country’s most-followed artists, with his fans self-identifying as Ravers.

Pepsi also announced that it will be rewarding the winner of the Best Soundtrack category with a cash prize of N1 million as a way of supporting not only musical artists but also, sound professionals in the film industry.

The soft drink giant will also be showcasing its collections at the Fashion Show event scheduled for the second day of the eight-day film festival. It added that it will be on hand to provide premium refreshment throughout the line-up of activities for the AMVCA.

Leading telecommunications service provider, Airtel Nigeria, has announced the appointment of two directors to join its executive leadership team.

The company named Kemi Ariyo as the new Director of Information and Technology and Harmanpreet Singh Dhillon as Director of Network Transformation and Planning.

According to Airtel, both appointments are set to bring about a new era of innovation and growth within the business.

Speaking on the recent appointments, Chief Executive Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Carl Cruz, said the notably experienced Kemi Ariyo will play a pivotal role in driving Airtel Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts and the company is pleased to elevate an excellent female leader within its ranks to the position.

On his part, Cruz stated that Mr. Harmanpreet will spearhead the telecom giant’s network transformation initiatives, geared towards strengthening its infrastructure and ensuring steady services for subscribers.

Their in-depth expertise and experience will be invaluable in driving our technological transformation and delivering exceptional experiences to our over 60 million users. Harmanpreet Singh Dhillon, the company revealed, brings an impressive background experience of over 23 years in the telecommunications industry and a passion for driving technological advancements.

Previously, he had served in various capacities across different organizations, including Vodafone, Nokia, Huawei, and was Chief Technology Officer at One Airtel in Karnataka, India, where he was responsible for leading the technology strategy, forecasting, expansion, operations, cost optimization, and capex planning for the networks team.

Kemi Ariyo also brings years of cross-industry and cross-continental career experience across the IT value chain with a track record of providing technical solutions geared towards service efficiency, customer experience, and business profitability.

Her contribution to Airtel started from her days as a Business Operations Analyst, under the management service at IBM, where she moved into several leadership roles until she fully joined Airtel in 2017.

Recall that Airtel recently completed the first batch of staff promotions for its financial year 2023/24. This promotion cycle saw the elevation of no fewer than 20 employees into senior leadership roles, out of whom three were women, and one out of these women was elevated to a vice president position.
