SAHCO Sustains Green Legacy, Acquires More Electric Ground Support Equipment

Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) has further augmented its fleets of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) by acquiring 10 electric conveyor belt loaders, the first of its kind in Nigeria, to boost Ground Handling operations across all the commercially operated airports in the country.

The Electric conveyor belt loaders which were manufactured by Charlatte Manutention, a renowned aviation industry manufacturer and supplier of quality Ground Support Equipment in France, are fitted with modern technology with zero carbon monoxide emission, it uses 80 volts rechargeable batteries with low maintenance cost which has the potential to save SAHCO a lot of money that could have been spent on diesel, petrol, fuel filters, Engine oil, etc. The Ground Support Equipment is an upgraded version of the existing conveyor belt loader in the market, it is very convenient to use and fitted with an anti-collision system.

Concurrently, the electric conveyer belt loaders which are designed to convey baggage and goods into the aircraft are ruggedly built to withstand the African terrain and weather conditions. SAHCO is reputed to invest in environment-friendly Ground Support Equipment hence the need for the purchase of these new feats of technology. The electric conveyor belt loader can service wide-body aircraft and also narrow-body aircraft.

Also, SAHCO which was recently crowned with the Best Performing Stock Award during the BusinessDay/NGX Awards in Lagos is constantly investing in unique Ground Support Equipment to serve her constantly growing list of clienteles that are spread across all the commercially operated airports in Nigeria.

It should be noted that SAHCO Plc was the first to introduce electric GSE into the Nigerian Ground Handling Support System when it commissioned five Electric Tow Tractors in 2021 which have since been deployed and have been in use.

Recently, SAHCO also acquired ten Passenger Step Units that have the capacity to provide passenger access to a wide range of aircraft including B747, B777, B767, A340, A380, A320, and an Air Starter Unit (ASU) which is used to supply necessary quantity of air at a specified pressure to aircraft while it is parked and two units of Airmarrel High Loader LAM 7000.

Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) has won the award of “Best Performing Stock” for the year 2021 at the Nigerian Investor Value Awards 2022 (NIVA) hosted by BusinessDay and the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island. 

SAHCO was picked from three nominees in the Transport Related category because of the recognition of SAHCO’s stellar performance in creating value on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on the basis of the following criteria which are share price, dividend payments, sustainability, brand value, market leadership and business strategy in 2021. 

At the event, Ogho Okiti, the Managing Director of BusinessDay Media Limited said in his opening speech that the award ceremony which was formerly known as the Top 25 Awards was created to recognize leaders of public and private companies who have created sustainable alpha-generating value for their shareholders through their strategic priorities, operating efficiencies, organizational values, and market engagement activities.

He went on to say that though there has been a backdrop of slow economic growth and a volatile national economy in the past 12 months, following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the capital markets have maintained a positive growth trend showing a testament to the resilience and agility of businesses within the bourse. 

Basil Agboarumi, the Managing Director/ CEO of SAHCO, who received the award said that though the company is fairly new to the Nigerian Stock Exchange market having joined on the 23rd of April, 2019, SAHCO has done very well as a Public Listed company by delivering Aviation Ground Handling Service in line with internationally accepted best practices. He also went on to say that SAHCO will continue to deliver safe, speedy, and efficient service thereby making Nigeria proud.

The Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC was prior to December 2009 a struggling establishment of the Federal Government of Nigeria, having been rescued from the ashes of the liquidated Nigerian Airways then the SIFAX Group led by its Executive Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, bought over SAHCO as a preferred bidder from the Federal Government of Nigeria, in a keenly contested privatization exercise by the Nigerian Government Privatization Agency- Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and then it was listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange Market in 2019.

SAHCO Acquires New Fleets Of Ground Handling Equipment To Boost Operation

Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has boosted its fleet of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) with more ultra-modern equipment.

The new fleet of equipment acquired includes ten Passenger Step Units that were manufactured by Mallaghan which is a renowned aviation industry manufacturer and supplier of highly acclaimed Ground Support Equipment.

The Passenger Step Units have the capacity to provide passenger access to a wide range of aircraft including B747, B777, B767, A340, A380, A320, etc.

Also, the equipment is fitted with proximity sensors which are devices that shut down the equipment engines when they are positioned too close to the aircraft to prevent aircraft damage.

Another acquired equipment in the new fleet is an Air Starter Unit (ASU) which is used to supply the necessary quantity of air at a specified pressure to aircraft while it is parked. The A.S.U was acquired from Guinault in France and has an eco-friendly engine while the chassis is made from steel to reduce the rate of corrosion or wear, also it has a safety device attached to the fuel gauge to enable it to shut down when the fuel is less than 30 liters to prevent engine damage due to fuel shortage.

Furthermore, two units of Airmarrel High Loader LAM 7000 were also part of the latest acquired fleet of GSE. The LAM 7000 has the capacity of loading about 7,000kg of pallets or containers at a time. This equipment is also furnished with proximity sensors and was procured from Airmarrel, a G.S.E producing giant from France. It is also furnished with electrical and hand emergency pumps which can be used during emergency procedures.

In a related development, the SAHCO Engineering team has produced 20 baggage carts from locally sourced materials. The equipment that has been dispatched to SAHCO’s Abuja station were produced according to European standard with huge improvements on their European counterparts.

The carts were produced to be able to carry more baggage, with rugged side guides with heavy-duty hinges to customize their functionality to suit Nigerian baggage peculiarities. Also, they can maneuver at 90 degrees, unlike their European counterparts. These carts were produced thereby saving SAHCO a lot of foreign exchange.

Speaking about the equipment, the Managing Director/CEO of SAHCO, Basil Agboarumi said the company’s Management decision to constantly invest in modern Ground Handling Equipment is due to the fact that SAHCO is always pursuing excellent services to clients. “As always, we are an aviation Ground Handling provider and what we stand for and want to be known for is not just to provide services but to provide excellent Ground Handling Services and we have an understanding as an organization that for us to be able to provide that kind of services, we must have staff that are well trained in what they do and have the right equipment to work with.”

Africa Agility Foundation Recognises SAHCO For Its Support, Partnership For Girls In Tech Program

As a way of supporting gender equity and empowerment of women, Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) has yet again proven its unwavering support for the Education and Support of Girl’s Child by partnering with the Africa Agility Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating, training and mentoring young Girls in Information Technology (IT).

SAHCO made available its World class Ultra-Modern Training facility located in Lagos to training and mentoring of the girls in Information Technology for three weeks at zero cost to the foundation.

The three weeks training bootcamp program, which was tagged “GIRLS in TECH” is aimed at empowering the talent economy of Africa, reducing poverty rate and promoting gender equality by proffering digital solutions to certain problems in Africa clime.

Speaking during the Grand Finale of the programme, Founder/CEO of Africa Agility Foundation, Aanu Gopald said “Our mission is to transform lives, one girl at a time through tech education” The foundation is dedicated to empowering 500,000 girls by the year 2030.

As a way of appreciating the unwavering support of Girls child in Nigeria, African Agility Foundation has honoured SAHCO PLC.

According to the founder/CEO Africa Agility Foundation, Aanu Gopald, the award is in recognition of SAHCO unwavering support and partnership for Girls in I.T program, “There is no better organisation that deserves the award than SAHCO because of its steady support for Girl’s Child Education in Nigeria”

While responding to the award, the Managing Director/CEO, Basil  Agboarumi said he is elated and thanked the organizer for finding SAHCO worthy of the award, stating that he will continue to do his best to support Girl’s child education.  He stressed that promoting girls’ education and rights through advocacy, capacity building and awareness creation is a beautiful way to empower women in Nigeria and all over the world.

According to him “As a company, we will continue to do our best to support Girls/women education” he said apart from making the SAHCO’s Training facility available to the foundation for 3 weeks as a contribution, SAHCO has also had to integrate some of the former graduands of Agility foundation into SAHCO yearly.

Basil went further to say that the girls attached to SAHCO has helped to develop Software Applications which have been of tremendous help to the company at large. He emphasized that the world has moved and we need to move to solving problems with technology instead of complaining.

He promised the foundation that SAHCO would continue to support Africa Agility to enable all girls in Nigeria to be technically enabled to impact positivity on the economy of Nigeria at large.
